I’ve enjoyed the darkness for a really long time. A dark cave attracts me, just as walking through my 5 acres once the sun goes down. Of course, we all know there are dangers lurking, so we go prepared. A stick. A flashlight. The supporting dog that barks quickly.
Last Tuesday night we celebrated our trip, including my brides retirement, at a really nice place in Moab, Ut. Sunset Grill. It’s on top of a bluff, a home built by a miner (I think!) of years gone back. And, it serves an excellent steak with a great view.
As we looked at the bluff across the way, the sun is mostly gone and only a little light remains. Yet, you can see the conglomerate city lights down the way.
Then, the morning light reveals everything! Beauty in the night, realization in the day. There’s something about the retreat of the lights of night to show exactly what the surrounding looks like.
Somewhere along the way we talked about the confusion in the conglomeration of the lights. It’s difficult weeding out the good from the dangerous.
There is confusion in the conglomeration of lights makes it difficult to weed out the sought for light. It’s difficult weeding out the necessary from the dangerous. Share on XWhile driving, we kept a lookout for a favored stopping point for gas and coffee. At night, you would see a familiar red/green light flashing, thinking you had arrived. Gasp! No! It’s a wannabe! Drive on by!
Our mantra became, “Stick to what you know!” At least, until you get a chance to investigate in the light of realization!
Here’s My Thought Today
Too often we are pulled the wrong way by the fakery of light we think is right. It leads us the wrong way. We are confused us with the glitz. If we are not careful, we accept the light we see as the light we need.
It’s easy to begin to just accept anything because of our need. We accept the false light, and if you do it often enough, then any ol’ light will do.
It’s a shifting world. What we know, verses what we think we will become like. Think about it. You become what you associate with.
The Apostle Paul warns us like this:
People who brag like this are false apostles. They are dishonest workers, since they disguise themselves as Christ’s apostles. And no wonder, even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it’s not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants who have God’s approval. In the end they will get what they deserve.
2 Corinthians 11:13-15 (GW)
Satan becomes light that is full of falsehoods. Just as we brag, act dishonestly, and show ourselves to be disciple or follower of Christ, well, Satan has learned how to disguise himself. Why? To accuse us, and draw us away. From what? The true light.
Listen to Jesus:
“Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.
And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.
I am come a light into the world,
that whosoever believeth on me
should not abide in darkness.
And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.”
John 12:44-50 (KJV)
This is some powerful thinking. From all positions, Jesus did not come to judge. He came to “be” the light that shines into darkness. Judgement time will come. For now, he’s the Light of the World!
Out of the clutter of the lights we are exposed to, we must find the true light. It’s there. Just waiting for us to find him. Like a moth, we are drawn to the lights of this confusing conglomeration of lights… Just be sure you follow the correct light.
Jesus is there. Just waiting on us.
