On your mark! Get Set! Go!
Too easily we run pell-mell into life without getting properly on our mark, prepared to run. Nor do we get set to propel ourselves forward at just the right time. We simply want to Go!
When I was a young reader, one of the very first books I remember reading was P.D. Eastman’s book, Go, Dog, Go! It was published in 1961, so the timing is right. I was truly enjoying the aspect of life from other shores, and different views by reading. Even today, Travel. Mystery. Drama. New geographies and culture. I suspect my desire to Go began with this book!
Of course, these books led to Hardy Boys, Tom Swift, and others of properly aged timed stories. Alistar Maclean gave way to more modern authors. You know them as Clancy, Ludlum, etc.
The one thing these books introduced to me was the idea of other lands, cultures, and the ilk. I wanted to Go and visit them. It took a long time for it to happen, but I can say that I’ve enjoyed going. Pay me to travel and I’ll be happy to keep on going!
Through the years I’ve put several million miles on my vehicles. My current truck has nearly 335,000 miles. A million is planned for and I’m sure it’ll happen!
Today We Leave
It’s a trip we plan and execute for some particular reasons, but also to enjoy the month downtime we have laid out before us. While on the road, I plan on sharing some traveling devotions each day. Why? My focus on writing, my hunger to share, and the revelation of new thoughts along the way.
I’ve set up a new category, Traveling Devotions. As we age into retirement there will be specific thoughts I’ll share relating to keeping my focus on God and life’s experiences. There is no such thing as retiring from thinking, unless, of course, the aged brain cells just don’t work as well as they should.
So. As we hit the road, let’s aim for some good thoughts to think along the way.
Stop being gullible and live.
Start traveling the road to understanding.”
(Proverbs 9:6 GW)
I wish for your prayers of traveling mercies… Blessings from the Road! Let’s Go!
