Through the past few months I’ve analyzed my writing, and wondered this: Where does my best inspiration come from? What moves me down the road of sharing as I’ve been doing. For over 10 years I’ve been blogging with two main themes in mind.
- Making Sense of Life, One Blog At A Time
- Algorithm’s To Live By
I’ve shared hundreds of books, or at least quotes and thoughts from books. Music always speaks to me, but only a certain style. My mind constantly ranges through the pastures of time, turning over stones and unearthing treasures. For me, at least.
However, as I think it deeper, I realize there are many things in my life that challenge and encourage me to be who I choose to be today. Each of these find their place in my writing, and maybe this is why there will never be a book. My focus is broad. Renaissance Man? Or so says a friend of mine. A little of this, and little of that… You know. A Spice Market!
A List, Of Sorts
So, I jotted this list early in the morning… Here is the hodge podge of things that mean a lot to me.
- People – From friends to managers, strangers to enemies, we are all touched by someone else.
- Things – My personal collection of stuff that is hard to unload, and the things I enjoy thinking about (cars, planes, etc.)
- Places – Travel, if I were a rich man, would take me further from home, but as with Dorothy, I understand: There’s No Place Like Home.
- Family – Love them if you got them…someday, they too shall pass. Near, and far, they are always there. Until they’re not.
- Spiritual – There’s nothing more important to me than my view of spirituality. It’s a driving force of my identity.
- Experiences – If we could put all our experiences into a book, how many volumes would we need?
- Words – The etymology of where words come from, what they mean, and how we use them today. Amazing pathway!
- Knowledge – The day you quit learning something new, well, the more stagnant a pond you become.
- Relationships – From the most casual, to the most important, life is replete with the connections we make with life.
Anything Else?
Is there anything missing from this list? What would you add?
Through the years I’ve been through some “spice markets” in my travels. It’s always amazing the neat arrangements of loose spices separated from it’s neighbors.
The amalgamation of all the spices in one place will be a hodge podge (Defined as a confusing mixture.). I will not make sense of it, but hopefully it will speak of who I am, and what I think is most important. To me. Who knows? Et tu?
I realize my list is a starting place. It’s not the final place. Beginning in a few days, and while traveling with my bride, I will be writing something special about each category of this list. I hope you will respond and tell me what you think.
