What Prompts You?

Through the years, as I’ve achieved one position in life or another, I always look through the next few steps to define what I want to focus on. As I pass the waning years of my ’60s, I realize it’s no different today than back in my younger years of pursuing the goal of achievement.

I paused this morning and pondered.

Do we ever get to that place where we’re ready to say,
“I’ve done enough?”

Perhaps. But I’m not there yet!

Accomplishing goals opens up my vision. There is so much more in front of me that I want to be involved in. Maybe that’s part of my mindset: Jack of all, Master of none. But I’m not limited to mastering nothing in my life.

It’s simple. I like testing the waters of many things until I find the right thing to focus on. From schooling, piloting, driving…you name it, I’ve found the next thing to focus on from accomplishing things today!

I watched a YouTube video of a man responsible for keeping Willie Nelson’s (Just turned 90 and still touring!) guitar, Trigger, in working order. In the video, he referenced becoming an apprentice to someone who was skilled in the exercise of guitar framework. It took him a while to get from trainee to Master of His Skill. [Source]

Suddenly, I wondered.

Do I have enough time to learn the art of building and repairing guitars? Or will I simply be satisfied to watch someone else mastering their craft?

You Be The Judge

As I enter my retiring years, my bones are getting weary, and the joints creak when I walk. Uncle Arthur wants to visit more often. My hearing is fading, and my mobility is getting questionable, but I don’t want to stop.

Never stop learning, doing, or being.
In other words, never quit while growing into my next opportunity.
Technology has been my learning force
Why stop now when there is still much to learn?

A rolling stone gathers no moss, or so the old words speak. Although I enjoy moss, I still want to Roll On! A watched pot never boils. Bring on the Heat!

When do you accept that your focus needs to become narrowed on getting through the year in front of you instead of considering decades? Share on X

It’s a combination of things that brings you to a limiting conclusion. What’s the present workload, availability of time, finances, and even your health?

It’s a natural procession of life
to reach the slowing down years.

Doing it successfully is important.

That’s why you prepare when you are young!

Invest in your family when young,
They will be all you have someday.
Spend time daily with God!
You’ll learn – He’s the source of all your needs…
Prepare today – in health, family, and spirit
The day will come when time will not allow.

As I reach these years, I wish I had heard this advice.
Ease into your retiring years,
Just make sure you’ve prepared successfully.

Joshua 14:6-13 NKJV

Then the children of Judah came to Joshua in Gilgal.
And Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him:
“You know the word which the LORD said to Moses the man of God
concerning you and me in Kadesh Barnea.
I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD
sent me from Kadesh Barnea to spy out the land,
and I brought back word to him as it was in my heart.
Nevertheless my brethren who went up with me
made the heart of the people melt,
but I wholly followed the LORD my God.
So Moses swore on that day, saying,
‘Surely the land where your foot has trodden shall be your inheritance
and your children’s forever,
because you have wholly followed the LORD my God.’
And now, behold, the LORD has kept me alive,
as He said, these forty-five years,
ever since the LORD spoke this word to Moses
while Israel wandered in the wilderness;
and now, here I am this day, eighty-five years old.
As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me;
just as my strength was then,
so now is my strength for war,
both for going out and for coming in.
Now therefore, give me this mountain
of which the LORD spoke in that day;
for you heard in that day how the Anakim were there,
and that the cities were great and fortified.
It may be that the LORD will be with me,
and I shall be able to drive them out as the LORD said.”
And Joshua blessed him,
and gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh
as an inheritance.
