I’ve never been one to drag me out of bed. No. When it’s time to get up no amount of temptation will keep me lounging. There’s too much to do, even if my first activity is only to brew some good strong black coffee.
There’s something to be said for hitting the floor running. Well. At least moving forward!
The problem with this is when you wake up in the middle of the night! When your mindset is to get up and go, it’s hard to stay and sleep!
For several weeks I’ve been waking between 2-4 a.m. Why? Not sure. At first, I think I’ve had enough sleep, but later in the morning, I realize that I didn’t get what I needed! Maybe it’s stress. Who knows? Whatever it is, I need to get it fixed! 5-6 hours of sleep is all I need. Trust me.
So. In the middle of the night, I don’t make coffee. Not that it affects me, but I know better than to tempt myself to think the day is ready for me!
What do you do when it’s a “false” time to hit the floor and move?!!?
Think About It
We all have limitations that our bodies and minds put on us. While we may be able to fool ourselves to do more than we are able, our bodies and minds will give us up to weariness. I’ve stressed my activities with too many hours given over to a task, and my decision-making protocols are in question.
Recently, an NFL quarterback was hit hard enough to scramble his mind. A concussion, they said. He reported himself and they took him out of the game. Perhaps this is the key. We need to report ourselves as incapable of making good decisions when the stresses overwhelm our sensibilities.
Maybe we should take ourselves out of the equation when our judgment is suspect.
Consider This Spiritual Application
It’s almost like when we get hoodwinked by sin. The writer of Hebrews reaches back in time to Moses and describes the possibilities like this:
By faith Moses,
when he became of age,
refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter,
choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God
than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin,
esteeming the reproach of Christ
greater riches than the treasures in Egypt;
for he looked to the reward.
(Hebrews 11:24-26 NKJV)
Notice. He didn’t lose his focus even with all the possibilities of privilege. His focus was on the future, and not the present. Maybe there was a spiritual awareness all the time, but there was definitely a choice made.
Do not give into moment of making decisions when you are tired. It's easy to do the right thing when you are not weary, but difficult to muddle through when you are wearied. Share on XDo the right thing. Refuse the route that might give you satisfaction for the moment. It’s easy to do when you are in your right mind, and your faculties are functioning the way they should. It’s harder when your mind and judgment is questioned by weariness.
