It goes like this, or so some say, that our fate is foretold by the day of our birth.
Monday’s child is fair of face
Tuesday’s child is full of grace
Wednesday’s child is full of woe
Thursday’s child has far to go,
Friday’s child is loving and giving,
Saturday’s child works hard for a living,
And the child that is born on the Sabbath dayIs bonny and blithe, and good and gay.[1]
Well… I was born on a Thursday, the 13th so the research says, if this is true then my time to go is far, far away. But wait! 13th is an unlucky number for some. In fact, many high-rise office buildings skip the 13th floor. If you fear this number then you need to memorize the word associated with that fear:
triskaidekaphobia
or paraskevidekatriaphobia if you fear Friday the 13th!
Well. Today is the last Monday of 2019. It’s not the 13th, but, it is a “fair of face” kind of day. There’s just one more day to go before we arrive in the next decade (using base 0 counting system).
Monday, May Have Issues To Some
Some dislike Monday, as in it’s a “blue Monday”. For many, this first day of a workweek after a weekend of living the life of Riley, well, they struggle with getting back in the grove.
I’ve never struggled with this concept. One day is no different than any other day, except for Sunday. That’s always been God’s House day. Everything revolved around this special day. What’s the day after? Monday. To me, that means Monday should be a great day!
Early this morning, I heard a radio commentator mention this was the last Monday of 2019 as if we should rejoice! Okay. I’m happy. Now, what does that buy me?
It was the Apostle Paul who taught us not to esteem one day higher than another. Of course, he was dealing with Holy Days, but his focus was telling us not to judge others for the days they commemorate.
One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God.
(Romans 14:5-6 ESV)
Here’s My Thought Today
I’m thankful for this day. Every day is a gift, so I want to honor it wisely for the time I have to be as productive as possible.
This is the day which the LORD hath made;
we will rejoice and be glad in it.
(Psalms 118:24 KJV)
The word rejoice is found to have an original word picture as one who “spins around”. Think of this as one who is so excited about the day that he twirls in happiness. It’s a day the Lord has made! At the end of each creation day, the Bible tells us God saw what was done as “good”, and “very good” on the day He created us.
So, do you need any other reason to celebrate? This is the day (Monday) that the Lord has made! Rejoice! Be Glad!
