Helping Hands

I’m always looking for value. From shopping the sales to not buying until it is on sale, I believe in digging for value and uncovering it for present and future use. A gem in the rough, whether it’s a person, place or thing, is like that “pearl of great price” Jesus talked about (Matthew 13:46).

I think we all need to know the value! Then determine what it’s worth. Can I live without it? What am I willing to do obtain that which is valuable to me?

You may feel you are a valuable part of the relationship but are you invaluable? You know, can we afford to live without you? That’s where we all want to be, true, but I don’t want to be irreplaceable. There will come a time when I will not be around, but what I do now should add value to those important to me, and my life is considered an irreplaceable portion of our collective past. Even in my absence.

Early this morning, several thoughts were running through my mind, and probably as the result of what I saw in my news feed, these three points rose to the surface.

  • “A RELATIONSHIP is a place we go to GIVE, not a place we go to GET.” ~Tony Robbins
  • “Givers Gain” ~BNI Motto (Business Network International)
  • Give and it shall be given… You receive based on what and how you give… ~Jesus, Luke 6:38

Value is not what you see in others (or things) for your benefit. Rather, value comes when you are the “giver” and not just a “taker”. It is only then that you realize you are you invaluable and irreplaceable, and worth great value to others.

Bottom Line

One can easily find themselves invaluable and irreplaceable, but only for the short term. You must learn how to add value so it reciprocates to even future generations down the road. When you pass off the scene, the value you give must be extended forward. Some call this “paying forward”, but I’m wishing we could simply see that the more we give, the better value we add to the bottom line of our foundation.

Most of our new expanse of knowledge is built on the shoulders of researchers, inventors, explorers, and scientists. The past is invaluable and irreplaceable. Additionally, the past will never comprehend where we are going today! This is Key! You cannot even comprehend what your giving spirit will do for others in the future!

This morning I was thinking about how life will change if we suddenly lost our supply chain. My coffee cannot quickly move from the farming fields to my kitchen cabinet – fuel is a premium, shipping is practically unheard of, laborers cannot get paid because nothing is being sold, and what coffee I do have is hoarded, bean at a time!

Hence, we must improve, protect, and make our entire system support the future. It’s not just living on the shoulders of those who have brought us this far, it’s building and reaching for the stars, adding irreplaceably and invaluably to the foundation of the human experience.

When you take your last breath, what will it be said about the value you added to the world around you? Were you only a “taker”, or did you “give, good measure, pressed down, overflowing…”.
