Vacation and exhaustion go hand in hand.
Right? We look forward to some time off to recoup so that we can go back to work and grind our fingers back down to the bones! Right? It shouldn’t! Not if you can view the v-a-c-a-t-i-o-n as a VACCINATION… Vaccinate yourself. And as often as needed to stay healthy! A vaccination from busy means it should be a time of refreshing, preparing for the next season, but enjoying the respite. The rest. The R&R. The Holiday…(which means Holy Day).
But we often spend our hours preparing to spend our hours off being as stinkingly as busy as possible. We prepare hard to relax and then work hard to enjoy the limited time off we have available.
Why?
Just because you are on vacation – Life doesn’t quit
Bad news, weather, and experiences still show up like that proverbial bad penny
And with every vacation – Time doesn’t slow
Not when you fill every waking moment with an itinerary that works you harder than a bad job
Just because you want to enjoy – Doesn’t mean that the time will be joyful
And not all vacations have great memories, Or great photographs, Or great stories to tell
Bad news still happens
Storms still pound
Problems still creep
Bills still need to be paid
Chores still need to be done
Animals need their feed and love
Your car still needs gas
Your mind never quits
Money still needs to be pouring in as you leak it like a sieve
So. Don’t think of vacation as……the great escape…best trip…family fun…
Think of it as simply a possibility
That’s all it is
Now. Enjoy what’s possible and take home the treasures you find
There’s still next year
Some of my best vacations memories are simply those little trips that are connecting with long lost family, or visiting a destination to explore but having plenty of downtimes to simply be. Early morning coffee. Porch. Mountains. Snow. Relax and just let it unfold. Every day a new day.
