A Drop in the Bucket: (Audio)
Except for creation at it’s beginning, nothing new simply springs into place. Everything starts with something small, grows and becomes, and eventually is recognized as worthy of consideration. Or not.
Everything has a start somewhere.
It’s been a long time coming, and the past several days have seen it come close to fruition. The cleaning out of “stuff” long accumulated. 40 boxes delivered from their sad state in the garage. Important items recovered and better stored for a long winters night review. Pile of trash waiting until Monday dump run.
I discovered, again, something I know about myself. Get in the groove and watch out. I know this about myself because this is the way I travel – get in the groove of knocking out those highway miles and notching the counter of miles conquered! 100, 200, 300…start looking for a gas station…400…500…stop for gas, grab some nourishment…600… and before you know it 1,000 miles under the belt and ready for more!
As I age, these numbers become less important and it’s more about the beauty you find along the way – you know, stop and smell the roses!
After those first few boxes, it became easier to toss things away without even thinking of intrinsic value. Old handwritten sermons, meeting notes, dated calendars full of scheduled events, and probably some important phone numbers from decades gone by… Tossed without a concern for loss.
Now. I did find some treasures for a later review. Books that will find a new home are in one stack, others for my office are in another, and some memory treasures to share with others that I could not simply toss out with the trash.
Still. It was a refreshing back breaking several hours over the past several days to clear out one side of the garage. By the end of this month, the garage will be reclaimed! Next? My office! That’s a wholly different story for another day! But if this groove lasts through the remainder of this year there will be a victory march into 2018!
