Choice Your Path

Okay. I know it’s the wrong use of the word! I probably should use the word “Choose” or even change the title around to say something like, “Make Better Choices On Your Path”. But this morning something in my spirit says, “Take that Noun and make it a Verb! Kick the Adjective to the side and Do Something With Your Choice!” Choice Your Path!

So I did!

When it’s your turn to choose the Dodge Ball team, who do you grab for your side? It’s your Choice that Counts! Do you get to decide who will be in your corner in advance of a looming battle, well, who becomes your Second is an important decision!

We live with so many untaken choices in our life. Like Robert Frost and that little-taken road in the woods, there are choices we leave on the table that make all the difference! I do not want to get to the end of my time and wish I had taken better choices in my life!

This Is The Key!

I get to choose! Even in the face of mounting criticism and opposition, I still get to make the choice of how I move forward, act or react, shuffle or run, breathe or sigh.

In other words, My Response is a Choice!

The choice to be nice instead of treating someone like ice… See. Nice. Ice. Adding the “N” makes all the difference!

It’s not necessarily those big action items in life, rather, it’s the little things done every moment that exhibits your desire to make better choices!

Continually we make poor choices. Spending, instead of saving. Spending lavishly, instead of conservatively. Investing in “A” when we should have chosen “B”. Going left, instead of right. Staying up too late, instead of marching ourselves to the bedroom and get to sleep, young man! Young Woman!

Here’s What I’m Thinking

My thought this morning is all about making better choices. In a recording from some time ago, Darren Hardy put it something like this:

Your creator is looking down
and watching the choices you make,
shaking his head and saying, “What?!”

We continually make poor choices! Yet, inherent within our created being is the ability to make better choices.

The lad called David delivered some food to his brothers on the battlefront. He heard the challenger say,

Then he stood and cried out to the armies of Israel, and said to them, “Why have you come out to line up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and you the servants of Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me. If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then we will be your servants. But if I prevail against him and kill him, then you shall be our servants and serve us.” (1 Samuel 17:8-9 NKJV)

I can imagine him standing before the king, dancing up and down on one leg and then the other, hand raised in the air, “Ooh ooh ooh, I got it! Choose me!” (In the voice of Horshack from the Sweathogs on Welcome Back, Kotter!)

Okay…

I’m sure David was nothing like this!

However, he got opposition and push back from his brothers and King Saul. But David kept repeating words like:

“Let no man’s heart fail because of him;
your servant will go and fight with this Philistine….
the LORD, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear,
He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” (1 Samuel17:35-37)

David’s heart was right, but could he do it?

Well. God chose him. The King allowed him. His brothers couldn’t stop him. The opposition suffered because of the choice.

Here’s my thought today.

Making right decisions for smaller oppositions in life prepare us to stand up to the bigger challenges we are sure to face later in life. It seems my writing, teaching and preaching keeps leading me to this major thought. If you are reading or listening, then maybe you can come to this same conclusion.

Consider these thoughts I’ve been leading from. Hold my feet to the fire of whether I’m making good choices, or not!

  1. Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow – “God knows. There is a future, hope, and peace! I just need to keep my focus on that direction.”
  2. Every Day Counts – “Making all the days count because every day already lived…counted.”
  3. Micro Moments in Life – “If we are in control of our responses to the micro-moments, then learning to control is a big part of who we are. To ourselves, others, and our entire life.”
  4. Don’t Let ’em Slide – “Learn from yourself on this one, little grasshopper. Look at your past and see if this is not true. The slide may be fun, but is it the best way to treat the situation?”

Are You Ready?

I’m ready for a new personal direction. Making choices that produce better results. Choosing the pathway that has a lot of resistance from the comfort zone we find ourselves to be part of.

So. Are you ready? Let’s say it together.

Choice Your Life!
