We’re aiming for 65 years…
And it’s been over 40 years since I first met my bride in 1972. Her mom was training me to be a teller (First State Bank of Greens Bayou), and the family drove through that drive-up window… For the first time I saw Brenda as they were on their way to tend to the horses.
We celebrate 42 years of marriage this July, and that is a more special date than this holiday of the guilty…
You know! Depleting the store shelves from just about anything sweet, or gimmicky…
In fact, we could do away with this feeling of inadequacy that many feel if we simply forced every new couple to marry on 2/14… Just saying! That would solve it!
In fact, there are so many days for so many different events it could drive you bonkers to try and touch everyone personally on these special events. Birthdays, Christmas, Federal Holidays, etc. Hallmark has a card and every florist wants you to think they have the most remarkable arrangement to help you celebrate that date. Yes, I realize this is one of the busiest and biggest shopping events of the year – Christmas and Back to School are two others. Yes, I realize retailers make their profit during these times that allow them to stay open successfully the remainder of the year. And, yes….I realize this holiday is the largest one for florist.
So, if you need a special day to tell your spouse how much you love him/her, then by all means do it today. My wife and I do it every day and have a mantra that we have followed for quite a few years:
“Don’t leave the house without kissing the spouse.”
That little thought keeps us turning to each other as we leave for work, or even a simple trip to the grocery store. We don’t need, nor do we depend, upon a single day like today to share our love.
Love you Brenda!
