Have you ever had a memory pop into your brain…
…When you glimpse something you find out of the blue?
Rearranging some “debris” in my closet, this book of wedding songs revealed itself. The first song in the book was the song we used at our wedding, way back in 1974.
The song is from Paul Stookey, from the famed group, “Peter, Paul and Mary”. Called simply, Wedding Song (There is Love).
My dad sang, my sister played the piano, and in my mind I hear them both performing at our wedding on that hot July night in Houston.
He is now to be among you at the calling of your hearts
Rest assured this troubadour is acting on his part
The union of your spirits here has caused him to remain
For whenever two or more of you are gathered in his name
There is love
There is love
Well a man shall leave his mother and a woman leave her home
They shall travel on to where the two shall be as one
As it was in the beginning, is now until the end
Woman draws her life from man and gives it back again
And there is love
There is love
Well then what’s to be reason for becoming man and wife
Is it love that brings you here, or love that brings you life
For if loving is the answer, then who’s the giving for?
Do you believe in something that you’ve never seen before?
Oh, there’s love
Oh there’s love
Oh the marriage of your spirits here has caused him to remain
For whenever two or more of you are gathered in his name
There is love
Ah there’s love
Love… The key to keeping the marriage intact. The love does not grow weary of each other, it only grows stronger as we fight through the battles of life. God so love the world… The World!… that he sent his only begotten son so that everyone who believes in Him should not perish… Not Perish!… but will have everlasting life.
The same recorder of the words of Jesus, instructs us later that Love is so very important!
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. (1 John 4:7-11 NKJV)
Loving each other should never diminish or die. Choosing who we love is not an option, for, if God loves everyone and his love never diminishes or die – then we should never let love for each other die.
