Every Day is a New Day (Audio)

Every morning as I walk upstairs to my office I am greeted by the view of a bookshelf loaded with books from my past. I will probably never dust them off and access them in the near future, but I hesitate to rid my clutter of their presence. They are good reference material should I ever need them… Some new day.

The challenge of the new day is dealing with the leftover issues of prior days. Tasks to complete, problems to mollify, and people to deal with. Sometimes it’s best to leave yesterday to the cobwebs of your mind and deal with today!

The challenge of the new day is thinking, planning and acting for the future days ahead. Even when the clouds seem to loom before you, there are bright and exciting days to come. Keep your focus!

The challenge of the new day is to get to the end of the day and say, “Yep! Another spin of the earth was a success!”

But every new day is not always a glorious success. Trials, burdens, sickness, and even hurt feelings can destroy the comfort of the day. Click on your news app and the day becomes a burden as you read the latest news, real or fake. Check your email and social media and you find the news weightier and more depressing. Before long it seems life is full of heaviness and despair. It’s like a quicksand is pulling you under and there is no one to help you out.

You can live in your pit, or you can shake off the negative feeling and find positive frames through which to view the world.

There’s a favorite scripture verse we have quoted often, written songs about, and basically, we use it to help lift our heads up and focus forward.

This I recall to my mind, Therefore I have hope. Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:21-23 NKJV)

The writer of Lamentations was probably the prophet Jeremiah, the weeping prophet as defined by a verse that describes his head as water, and his eyes a fountain of tears so he could weep day and night for his people (Jeremiah 9:1). So a book titled “lamentations” is probably right up his alley. It’s not that he was a “doom and gloom” kind of person, rather, God gave him words to say and he repeated the message of the Lord, but he also had a task to complete.

Then the LORD put forth His hand and touched my mouth, and the LORD said to me: “Behold, I have put My words in your mouth. See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, To root out and to pull down, To destroy and to throw down, To build and to plant.” (Jeremiah 1:9-10 NKJV)

He had an awesome task to accomplish!. Sometimes you have a job to do and it’s not always welcomed by those around you. In fact, you may not enjoy it yourself. But with the blessings of knowing the new day is ahead, and His Faithfulness will see you through, then you should be able to face the day without trepidation.

The psalmist put it into perspective when he said, “…Weeping may endure for a night, but Joy comes in the morning!” (Psalms 30:5) See! Even David knew about the New Day syndrome!

One of these days I may have to pick up one of those reference books that will help me deal with some issue on my plate. That will be a New Day, just like today is my New Day that can leave them gathering dust.
