From @MikeGurley – Meaningful Twitter Thoughts From December 2017

I’m taking a few minutes this year end and analyzing the value of my Twitter feed. I’m enjoying thinking whether what I have to say is necessary, enjoyed or useful. I would be curious to know what you think…

Friends,
Close friends,
Few and far between.

Remember them …
And I promise,
The years will be like
Seconds across the miles.

“No matter how educated, rich, talented or famous you believe you are, how you treat people is ultimately what will tell all.” ~Anonymous

Language seems to be so unrestrained these days. Generational crude language is used with ease by younger audiences. I remember the shock once felt when used, and now it’s in the hands of unrestrained. It’s a fearful thing to have no boundaries. #babel

O to grace how great a debtor,
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let that grace now like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.

We’ve all done it. You know. “Checked out before the ending.” We’ve stopped reading books, watching movies and even stopped listening to someone speak. Why? We lost interest, it wasn’t for us, or we grow distracted. Let’s not get distracted during the remaining days of this year.

Every thing, and person, has a weak link. A chink in the armor where weakness can be exploited. When we learn this about others we feel powerful. When we learn our own weak link we feel incapable. Constant attention to self helps you guard against your weak moment.

Life has many short term attractions. Baubles and pretties we pick up and enjoy, then, luster lost, we toss to the refuse pile. Most Christmas gifts make a temporary stop into your hands on the way to the dump. Imagine the value of the dump?

With righteous indignation one side slams the other. Repeatedly to prove their superiority. Truth is? They are wrong. Probably. Most of us do not have enough facts to know which side is more right. We only know the rhetoric.

The staging points of our life are founded generations before our birth. You are a product of this history. In many ways you can change the results, but in other ways you are stuck with your #heritage. But the #choice to make life better rests in your #attitude. What do you do?

“Beauty’s on the Skin, Ugly’s to the Bone, Beauty fades away, But Ugly stays on.” Via Rev Elzine Strong, circa 1966, #Lufkin #Texas #Upci #Campground in the Chapel, the only place where there was AC on hot June morning.

Faithful with the little things may never get you in the limelight of bigger rewards. But Great is your faith that keeps you plodding even when the future is silent. Hope never fails! Nor is it dimmed by the present. Keep the faith.

The original Christmas season was not a retail experience. It was a new family in the making under stressful experiences, and not knowing what the future would hold. The Shepherds heard and worshipped. The Wise Men understood and followed the star. Meanwhile, Herod was plotting.

One of the blessings I have in my life is the voice of pastors from my past still speaking to my mind and spirit today. Especially @BrettFJones and Rev James Kilgore. Preachers are many, pastors are special. You need a pastor to speak the Christmas message to your spirit. #Pastor

The social phenomenon wants me to congratulate you on your accomplishments, milestones, and victories. It is said we get a dopamine rush, as does a drug addict, when we are rewarded with likes, loves and views. No one paying attention? No rush!

Life’s ups and downs generally produce a happy medium between extremes. If you visit the hurts of the past too often you draw your medium to a new low. Keep focused on the positives and override the negatives. #Philippians 3:13

When you reach the end of your journey, what will happen to all those mementos and collectibles that only you cherish? Maybe it’s important to you only, and those following behind will simply recycle. Who will care for my books? Who will enjoy my Birdsall’s? K-I-S-S is important!

“If you can help someone, Do; If you can hurt someone, Don’t.” @cjwalea And I don’t need any scripture to back me up on this! It’s just a great way of looking at life…

Those tweets and social posts you like, retweet and promote gives an outsider a view of you that may, or may not, be true. Who you follow may show your influencers. What you promote may show what you think important. Will the real you please show up?!!?

Lesson learned: You do not “make” others enjoy the same things that you do. You simply enjoy and maybe someone else joins you. Forcing is like making all eat broccoli when many can not stand the idea of enjoying a miniature tree. Same with sushi! Not for me!!

Action Item from @DARRENHARDY – What’s your weakest link? 1) Look in the mirror to find your weakest link; 2) Figure out and write down what your one thing is; 3) Stop doing 90% of whatever else you are doing

Politics defined: poli- equals many; tics- equals blood sucking creatures. You have to be crazy to want to enter into the political foray…even though someone has to do it! Rubber rooms waiting for all after their terms!

Note to self: Trim and streamline all input – subscribed emails, voices that want to get in my head, free offers, sales gimmicks, news sources, unrealistic voices…you name them, I’m only keeping the important things. All else will go. I’ll share later!

The older I get the fewer Holiday traditions we have. The kids build their new ones North and South of us, and my parents in another state have already learned this. Aging is a constantly learning game.

To forgive and forget is hard. Who does it best? Hebrews 10:16-17 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

Friends will change over time. Just like you change. They come and go, but you family is part and parcel of your identity – the good alongside the not-so-good. Love is important, just like family is important.

Sometimes our quest to have something we can’t or shouldn’t have leaves us with a false sense of accomplishment, but we are no more satisfied after the conquest than before. Our insatiable appetite needs to change!

  1. I read them all twice now not offended heehee, some of it is less than profound but all is thought provoking! Now don’t make tell what thoughts it provoked I just don’t have that kind of time🧐

    1. Yep… I’ve also learned that some excerpts of our words, read out of the context of the moment, often have less impact than the moment they were written.
