Jammed Up Thinking: (Audio)

Clarity. Clear Mind. Fresh Thoughts. Different Approach. Thinking Cap on. Mind focused. Thoughts refreshed. Comfort zone established.

Now! Time to write it through, just like you might think it through.

Yesterday was a weird day. The schedule was off track and it seemed difficult to get it going again. This affected everything. My thinking process was not flowing, words couldn’t come, and if I were a witness in a courtroom no one would have made sense of anything I had to say!

Distractions were, and still are, huge, and due partly to an overwhelming list of things to get done in such a short time. But I seldom turn off the flow of data into, and hence it piles up trying to find a place to be productive.

However, this is an excuse and not a reason for the day to not flow like it should.

This went on for hours! Until, finally, it culminated into the evening when I may not care what the day looks like (future tense) and think only of it in the past tense. Now. New day. Analyzing it this morning, I surmised my overly busy world needed a moment of downtime and I found it and did not realize the blessing of it.

It’s learning how to enjoy the escape of the moment and just take a breather.

Imagine for a moment all the mental energy happening by over 7 billion people around the world. With our minds functioning as different as night is from the day, is it any wonder that we struggle with getting this place on track?

This is my mental “thinking nothing” view!

Add to this mixture all the wildly aggressive news stories and world events happening on every stage and you compound the overflow of information to deal with.

Then, the data you enjoy never ceases and you keep soaking it up and storing it in your mind that never knows how to simply quit.

Is it any wonder your mind is easily overwhelmed with “the” data and what you truly need is a moment to step back, surrender the time of mental occupation, and simply think about nothing!

Why?

Because you cannot make sense of it all,
and you need some “me” time.

Now!

The dam of data in my mind is calmly holding back the collected weight of the water behind it. Before the dam bursts, or water flows indiscriminately over the top, time to get back in control of the situation and open the gates and let thinking and doing start flowing in a controlled and disciplined way.

It’s like the hard drive on my computer. Day and night it collects data, stores it all over the place, and every so often it simply needs to defrag, reorder and prepare for more new data… Even then, it fills up and you either have to move data to a new source or, gasp, you actually have to delete something! This happened 2 days ago!

While thinking about this on a spiritual front, one thing kept popping into my mind. We often need times and occasions of refreshing. David, long before he was king, learned the value of providing peace for someone else’s discomfort.

And so it was, whenever the spirit from God was upon Saul, that David would take a harp and play it with his hand. Then Saul would become refreshed and well, and the distressing spirit would depart from him.  (1 Samuel 16:23 NKJV)

This time of distressing was probably related to his inability to be the best king possible. This is something we all deal with when we compare who we think we should be with that perfect image of someone who is doing it!

Even the Apostle Paul recognized that there were some people who simply had the ability to refresh others by their very presence. (1 Corinthians 16:18, 2 Corinthians 7:13) But the one name that comes to mind is Onesiphorus.

The Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain; but when he arrived in Rome, he sought me out very zealously and found me.
(2 Timothy 1:16-17 NKJV)

There are times we all need to escape the jammed up thinking of our day and find a moment to relax and enjoy the peace of another’s presence, or from solitude.

I arrive at my day. Today. I begin my morning more normally than yesterday. Refreshed and prepared. Hard drive defragged and organized. Okay. Friday. Let’s go.
