Sundowner Time:

Yes. Sundowner is a term often used to represent someone who is struggling with some form of mental confusion, health challenges, and another good negative experience will probably take them off the scene permanently.

Gone, just like the sun going down. Faintly dimming over the horizon, even from 30,000 feet in the air.

Not forgotten, but no longer available for a quick visit, or a phone call, or a nice dinner where you can recall shared pieces of the past.

We will all face this time of life, either with someone close, or ourselves. How we prepare for this time is very important, and how we cover all the bases so there are no loose ends for someone else to clean up. Fortunately, this time will probably be a long time down the road, but it behooves all of us to be prepared as well as possible.

My thought took me down this path. Today, I climbed on board for my flight home. The sun was beyond the trees, and as we climbed into the skies chasing the sun out of the sky, and finally it’s gone. It’s dark ahead of us. I can not put go fast enough to find the sun and there is no amount of artificial light to reproduce the sun’s warm glow.

It was King David, probably thinking of all those long nights he would face guarding over his dad’s flock.

“From the rising of the sun to its going down The LORD’s name is to be praised.” Psalms 113:3

But this thought also took me to another path that is a little opposite.

“God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.” Genesis 1:5

David described his day as morning to night, God described the day as night till morning. David could look ahead at the ending of his day, but God described the night we would go through, and the day would come after the long night was completed.

Here’s my confidence. Regardless of where you are, sun down, or sun rise, God is right there with you seeing you through from your morning to night, and night till your ultimate morning. Just trust Him…
