Apple Blossoms
Apple Blossoms

We have several fruit bearing trees – primarily apples and pears. I know if we had more time on our hand we would be able to produce bushels and bushels.

My walnut trees have produced nothing and this bothers me because I eat more walnuts than apples, and more of everything else than pears!

One of the things I know is that my apple trees produce prodigious blossoms. Every single blossom has the potential to produce fruit if only they are pollinated by the bees or the wind.

Every blossom has potential.

All it takes is some planning, and perhaps a little bit of luck!

How much of life is similarly positioned? Whether it’s a wise investment at the right time, a simple change of direction that seems to come by accidental choice, nurturing your child for the future instead of pounding your version of the truth into them, or even a wise word spoken at a timely point!

Pro 15:23 KJV  A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!
Pro 25:11 KJV  A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

There is a thought that comes to me while thinking about this today. While walking the dogs I took a close look at the apple blossoms. Exactly “why” does one blossom produce fruit, and the one right next to it fails? Of course, asking this question becomes easier as I consider the possibility and potential of each blossom, the fruit it will produce, and the goodness that will satisfy completely when consumed.

What can I do to make each one productive?

Of course, there many answers and solutions. Hire someone to manually cross pollinate between the blossoms of all the trees. Hire someone who rents out their beehives simply for this purpose. Or simply let nature do its natural and accidental work…

  • I think the same thing when I stand at my pulpit. Every person is a blossom. Every life is a potential. What can I do to make my message more productive?
  • Then I think about every person we come in contact with. Every life is a blossom. We have the potential to touch that soul with something good, or something evil.

Moses is not able to cross into the promised land because of a poor choice. Joshua was one of the 12 spies to check out the new land. Along with Caleb, these two men alone brought back a good report. It is now Joshua that is to lead the Children of Israel into the promised land that they have longed for. 40 years of wandering has brought them to this moment.  He utters his fateful challenge to the followers.

Jos 24:15 KJV  … choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Choices. Making right decisions. Populating the blossoms in our life can be left up to blind luck, or the influences around us, or we can make a conscious choice.

Let your blossom be appropriately pollinated. Make the right choice. Go the right direction.
